One cool thing Grant and I got to do on the first day was tour the stadium and get to see what goes on behind the scenes on game day. Although we are working in the scouting department we got the opportunity to tour the offices and the field. When we initially arrived we got to go down to security to get our own IDs and see the tunnel entrance on to the field where all the grounds crew and maintenance people walk out to get the dirt and grass playable for the upcoming game. The game was at 1 o clock too and our boss was nice enough to give us tickets and let us watch some of the game at the end of the day right behind home plate. We normally sit in the bleachers so it was really cool to be so much closer to the action than we typically are. Once we made it up to our floor in left field we saw that we got our own desks and cubical with our own computer and monitors for the day. We also have a really cool view of the bridge the Guardians are named after. Getting our own space with our computers really made us feel part of the organization and like we were contributing something meaningful. One thing that I found interesting is because of the department we are in the scouts don’t really pay too much attention to the day games and the current team because they are more focused on draft prospects and current prospects within the farm system (Lynchburg Hillcats, Lake County Captains, Akron Rubberducks, and Columbus Clippers). We also learned that each part of the office is split up between domestic and international scouts which makes sense but is something I have never thought of. For example, our bosses are domestic scouts and some are going to see the SEC, ACC, PAC 12, and highschool tournaments this weekend while international scouts may be going to see players in the Dominican League that we could potentially sign. Overall, it has been a blast and I feel like I have learned a ton.
